Hypocreopsis rhododendri is an ascomycete fungus. It is commonly known as hazel gloves due to the resemblance of its orange-brown, radiating lobes to rubber gloves, and because it is found on hazel (Corylus avellana) stems.

The Hypocreaceae are a family within the class Sordariomycetes.Species of Hypocreaceae are usually recognized by their brightly colored, perithecial ascomata, typically yellow, orange or red.The family was proposed by Giuseppe De Notaris in 1844. According to the Dictionary of the Fungi (10th edition, 2008), the family has 22 genera and 454 species.
Anamorph: not known. Teleomorph: stromata 25-80 (-200) mm diam. and 4-5 mm thick, irregularly radially ridged with branched finger-like projections ca 5 mm wide to the periphery, orange-brown, tan or reddish brown, the outer parts often less strongly pigmented, initially smooth but becoming rugose in the central part, sometimes completely encircling the supporting tree stem.

Hypocreopsis riccioidea, shown at right, is one of the most spectacular members of the Hypocreaceae. It forms its lobed stromata over the colonies of Hymenochaete tabacina, a basidiomycete common on branches of alder and willow.
